At the end of 2008, a total of 176 Municipalities, representing practically the entire population of the Madrid Region belonged to CRTM.

The entire public transport system has carried 1.598,2 million passengers representing a decrease of 2 percent over the previous year. This general decline in activity, the first in 20 years of uninterrupted growth, is a result of the deteriorated economic situation, which naturally has an immediate translation in public transport in terms of shrinking demand.
